AT GETTYSBURG

“Moe” Banks begins his fourth season as head football coach at Gettysburg in 2023. Banks was named head coach in February 2020, but had to wait until Sept. 4, 2021 to lead the Bullets onto the turf with the 2020 campaign cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 
His first season on the sideline saw a pair of defenders earn All-Centennial Conference honors and Banks' initial win in the form of a 48-42 Homecoming win over Juniata on Sept. 25. His squad also played two of its other four home contests to one-score games.

Last season, two players earned three all-conference nods with Doug Cummings being named the league’s first-team kicker and second-team punter. Chris Lessel was an honorable mention defensive back. In 2022, Chris Singleton led the nation in blocked kicks, stuffing eight kicks in 10 games. As a team, the Bullets blocked nine, which was fourth in Division III.

MIKE HOYT • Associate Coach

Hoyt enters his sixth full season with Gettysburg football in 2023. Hoyt, who arrived on campus in the spring of 2018, added Associate Coach to his duties as Defensive Coordinator. He is responsible for the linebacking corps within his defensive scheme.Additionally, he serves as coordinator of the athletics program’s strength and conditioning program.

Hoyt has coached six all-conference performers on the defensive side of the ball. In 2018, defensive lineman Logan Aikey ’19 set a program record with 18.5 tackles for a loss, including nine sacks on the way to All-Centennial Conference Honorable Mention and Academic All-District accolades. The following year, defensive lineman Alex Raimondo ’22 and safety Justin Lessel ’21 were named to the all-conference team with the former racking up 14 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks and the latter managing four interceptions and eight pass break-ups. Raimondo reprised his spot on the all-conference team in 2021, garnering first-team honors after 18 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Matt Lynch '22 and Chris Lessel ’23 have also claimed honorable mention accolades over the last two seasons.

In addition to his duties on the gridiron, Hoyt has helped organize Gettysburg’s strength and conditioning program, -

 
creating innovative workouts for all varsity teams. He oversees a staff of certified strength coaches and makes sure each student-athlete gets the resources he or she needs to be successful in a specific sport.

Hoyt is a well-known name in the Centennial Conferencing, having served as the head coach at McDaniel College (2012-2015) and as an assistant at Franklin & Marshall College (1998, 2000-03). He oversaw all aspects of McDaniel's football program and increased both roster size and talent level through successful recruiting. Hoyt coached defensive backs, linebackers, and running backs and served as recruiting coordinator during his two stints in Lancaster.

ANDY DICKENS • Offensive Coordinator

Dicken enters his 10th season as an assistant football coach at Gettysburg and was elevated to Offensive Coordinator prior to the 2021 campaign. In addition to his OC duties, Dicken oversees the quarterbacks.
 
Transitioning to the offensive side in 2018, Dicken inherited a young and developing receiving corps. In his second year with the group, he counted six players with 11 or more catches and 100 receiving yards on the year, doubling the total players from the prior year. Included in that group was Sal DeBenedetto ’22, who hauled in the longest touchdown reception in program history with a 98-yarder against Juniata.

Dicken came to Gettysburg from Illinois Wesleyan University, where he spent four seasons as an assistant coach. In the 2012 and 2013 seasons he worked as the defensive backs coach and junior varsity defensive coordinator while serving as a graduate assistant. He also assisted with the kickoff, punt, and punt return teams. In 2013, Dicken helped the Titans put together a 9-2 record and earn an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs while finishing 25th in Division III in total defense. He also helped a pair of Titans earn three All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) honors.

 
Dicken also served as the tight ends and assistant wide receivers coach at Illinois Wesleyan in 2010-11, helping one of the team’s tight ends capture All-CCIW recognition. In addition, Dicken ran the scout offense and assisted with the kick return and punt teams.

PATRICK GALLOWAY • Assistant Coach

Galloway begins his fourth season on the Gettysburg coaching staff. Galloway oversees the offensive line and manages the Bullets' social media presence. 

Galloway spent three seasons in Ohio coaching at Tiffin University (2017-18) and Ohio Northern University (2018-19). He oversaw the tight-end position at both institutions and served as an assistant offensive line coach. At Ohio Northern, Galloway helped the Polar Bears average over 400 yards of total offense and nearly 33 points per game in the highly-competitive Ohio Athletic Conference. Prior to his stints in Ohio, he coached running backs at Albright University.

Galloway is a 2016 graduate of Beloit College where he played on the offensive line. He graduated with a degree in education and youth studies.

AJ EHRESMAN • Assistant Coach

Ehresman is in his third season on the Gettysburg coaching staff. Ehresman shifted duties last season to work with the running backs - a role he will once again oversee in 2023.

Ehresman came to Gettysburg from Tiffin University in Ohio where he served as the football program's video coordinator. Prior to Tiffin, he coached running backs while serving as the academic coordinator at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., from 2019-20. Ehresman was part of an offensive coaching staff that produced 32 points and 450 yards per game during the 2019 campaign.

Additional coaching stops include serving as a graduate assistant at Tiffin from 2016-18 and an assistant coaching stint at Seneca East High School in Attica, Ohio, from 2016-19. Ehresman served as a film assistant and assistant wide receiver coach at Tiffin. 

Prior to his coaching career, Ehresman was a two-sport student-athlete at Bluffton University. He was a two-time

 
letterman as a running back on the football team and competed in the sprints on the track and field team. He earned a degree in sports management from Bluffton in 2016 and attained his MBA from Tiffin in 2018.

EAMON MORRISSEY • Assistant Coach

Morrissey returns to his alma mater in the spring of 2023 after spending the 2022 season as a defensive assistant at Lycoming. The 2023 season will be his first on the sidelines, assisting with the defensive backfield.

While with the Warriors, he specifically focused on the defensive tackles and assisted with running the scout offense weekly. He also assisted with academic support and was responsible for recruiting Northern New Jersey. 

A 2022 graduate from Gettysburg, he was a four-year defensive lineman for the Bullets. A Presidential Scholar and six-time Dean's List honoree, he graduated with a bachelor of arts in organization management studies.

VICTOR LOPEZ • Assistant Coach

Lopez joins the Bullets staff in the spring of 2023, focusing primarily on strength and conditioning within the program.

He spent the four years as a fitness attendant and personal trainer at the Gettysburg YMCA. There, he conducted introductory workout courses for beginning level lifters, performed full movement assessment during initial fitness consultations, programmed circuit workouts, and trained the geriatric population at achieving their fitness goals.

He's also worked as a personal trainer at Crunch Fitness in Mechanicsburg and, most recently, as a remote strength coach with Mind Over Matter Strength & Conditioning.

He is a certified USAW Level 1 Weightlifting Coach in addition to holding CSCS certification. 

Lopez earned his bachelor of science in exercise science from Shippensburg, graduating cum laude in 2020. He earned his master of science in sport performance from Lebanon Valely last December.
